BISD Cancels 2021 Charro Days Activities

Brownsville, Texas – January 14, 2021 – The Brownsville Independent School District (BISD) announces today that in the best interest of the community’s health and well-being, the 2021 BISD’s Charro Days activities have been cancelled.

“After speaking with Charro Days Fiesta, local community health officials, and the continuing rise of positive COVID-19 cases, we have also decided to cancel all 2021 Charro Days activities that BISD hosts and plans for this upcoming school year,” said Dr. René Gutiérrez, superintendent of schools of Brownsville Independent School District. “The safety and well-being of our students, faculty, and staff are our number one priority and we cannot compromise their health during these difficult times. We appreciate our community’s understanding and continued support.”

BISD annually hosts the Fiesta Folklorica at Sams Memorial Stadium on Monday and the Children’s Parade on Thursday. The district provides support to Charro Days Fiesta’s mission of celebrating the spirit of two cultures between border towns of Brownsville and Matamoros.

Since the beginning, BISD has played a significant role in the Charro Days activities honoring traditions of binational friendships with rich culture and heritage. BISD looks forward in working with Charro Days Fiesta to keep the tradition and spirit alive.
