The Battle of the Books is a reading incentive program for students in 3rd through 12th grades. Students read books and come together usually in groups to demonstrate their abilities and to test their knowledge of the books they have read. Each BISD middle school entered a three-student team to participate in the literacy competition. The books used included Frogkisser by Garth Nix, Miles Morales: Spider-Man by Jason Reynolds and Kadir Nelson, Refugee by Alan Gratz, Unbeatable Squirrel Girl: Squirrel Meets World by Shannon Hale & Dean Hale, and Well, that Was Awkward by Rachel Vail.
Winners of this Battle of the Books competition were: 1st place- Lucio MS, 2nd place- Stillman MS, and 3rd place- Perkins MS. The Lucio MS team consisted of Cindy Michelle Arriata, Kimberly Ann Delgado, and Alejandra Paula Lopez. They will be traveling to Region I on February 20th for the Middle School Regional Battle of the Books competition where they will compete against teams from across the valley.
